Commission I Of The DPR: Prabowo Can Demonstrate Indonesia's Strategic Position At The G7 Summit

Monday, 09 Jun 2025

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has the opportunity to demonstrate Indonesia's strategic position during the G7 Summit in 2025, which will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, in mid-June.

According to Dave, Indonesia's strategic position can be viewed from various perspectives, particularly based on President Prabowo's previous statements regarding foreign policy and Indonesia's leadership on the international stage.

"I am convinced that Indonesia must be able to serve as a balance and a barometer of the world's power centers," Dave remarked when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

With President Prabowo's presence at the G7 Summit, Dave continued, Indonesia can not only reaffirm its role as a nation that does not align with any power bloc but also act as a bridge and mediator for global issues.

"This aligns with Indonesia's active and independent foreign policy," he added.

He also appreciates President Prabowo's efforts to elevate Indonesia's position on the international stage, including Indonesia's accession to BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

Dave added that President Prabowo could leverage the G7 summit to establish a robust diplomatic network, promote national interests, and actively engage in discussions on critical issues.

As a major economic power in Southeast Asia, Dave stated that Indonesia has significant economic interests.

To this end, President Prabowo can advocate for investment, encourage fairer trade cooperation, and address global economic issues affecting Indonesia, such as supply chains, energy, and the green transition at the G7.

Previously, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto officially received an invitation to attend the G7 Summit in 2025, which is scheduled to take place in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, in mid-June 2025.

This information was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya through the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Saturday (June 9).

"In addition to the official written invitation, the invitation for President Prabowo to attend as a guest of honor at the G7 Summit was also communicated directly by His Excellency Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney via telephone yesterday," thus reads his statement.
