Interior Minister Tito Karnavian reported that 51 regional leaders from the PDI-Perjuangan party have participated in an orientation retreat at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java, starting from Friday, February 21, 2025. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, there are a total of 97 PDI-P regional leaders among 503 in total. This indicates that over 50 percent of the party's leaders attended the retreat. "If I recall correctly, we have 97 PDI-P members out of 503. So, about 51 have already joined since the first day," Tito stated during an event at the Military Academy on Sunday, February 23, 2025. He believes that the leaders present on the first day recognized the value of this event for their own benefit.
Additionally, the attending leaders understand that they were elected by the people. "They realize that they were chosen by the citizens, and their primary responsibility is to the public. I mentioned earlier that the party is just a vehicle," he explained. Tito reminded the regional leaders that their positions are a result of the people's choice, not the party's. "When they become regional leaders, it is because of the people's vote, not the party's. Therefore, their presence here is for the benefit of the citizens," Tito emphasized.
Previously, PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri had instructed PDI-P regional leaders to postpone their participation in the retreat at the Military Academy, which began on February 21, 2025. The instruction, numbered 7295/IN/DPP/II/2025, was issued on the evening of February 20, 2025, in response to the detention of PDI-P Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). "All PDI-Perjuangan Regional Heads and Deputy Regional Heads are instructed to delay their travel to the retreat in Magelang from February 21 to 28, 2025," Megawati stated in the letter on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Megawati has asked all PDI-P regional leaders who have already traveled to the location to stop and wait for further instructions. Recently, the interest among PDI-P members to join the retreat has grown stronger, especially after Pramono Anung, the DPP PDI-P official and Governor of DKI Jakarta, headed to Magelang on Saturday (February 22, 2025). He went to Magelang to discuss the postponement of the regional leaders' retreat with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Currently, PDI-P has data showing that 55 of their regional leaders are still awaiting orders from the DPP to participate in the retreat.
