Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Czech Defense Minister Jana Cernochová agree that defense cooperation should be a priority for both countries. This was stated by Brigadier General TNI Frega Wenas, Head of the Defense Information Bureau, following a closed meeting between the two ministers at the Ministry of Defense office on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. "Both Defense Ministers expressed their agreement that defense cooperation is indeed a priority," Frega said during a meeting at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta. He noted that this agreement stems from the military backgrounds of both leaders.
President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia and President Petr Pavel of the Czech Republic both have military experience, with Pavel being a former military general who held several strategic positions in the Czech military. "Given their military backgrounds, both presidents understand the importance of defense cooperation and military collaboration," Frega explained.
During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed the continuation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which expired in 2023. Frega mentioned that defense cooperation can only commence once the DCA is officially signed by both countries. "We all hope that this cooperation can be concretely implemented. The urgent matter is to renew the DCA, as it serves as a framework for more specific actions," he added.
Additionally, Frega revealed that the Czech Defense Minister expressed interest in participating in the Indo Defence exhibition, which is scheduled to be held by the Ministry of Defense in June 2025.
