Budget Cut By Rp 81 Trillion, Public Works Minister Ensures All Programs Will Continue

Tuesday, 11 Feb 2025

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has confirmed that there will be no changes to his ministry's programs for 2025, despite a budget cut of Rp 81 trillion from the original allocation of Rp 110.95 trillion. He plans to propose adjustments to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati for programs that align with national priorities, such as achieving food self-sufficiency and developing irrigation systems to support this goal. "The priority now is how the Public Works Ministry can support food self-sufficiency. That's our main focus. Irrigation and regional roads go hand in hand, and we will submit that proposal first," Dody stated at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (February 3, 2025).

He added, "Gradually, we hope there will be no changes to our programs moving forward in 2025." Dody explained that the budget cut of Rp 81 trillion was requested by President Prabowo Subianto during their last meeting at the Presidential Palace. He mentioned that this request would lead to a review of several aspects, after which he would resubmit the budget proposal to Sri Mulyani. "We will resubmit. Just like in the new capital city project, we will identify what needs to be resubmitted," he clarified.

Additionally, this budget reduction follows Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2025 and Finance Minister's Letter Number S-37/MK.02/2025, which mandates a total budget saving of Rp 256.10 trillion across ministries and agencies. Deputy Minister Diana Kusumastuti noted that with an 80% cut, the Public Works Ministry's budget for this year is reduced to approximately Rp 29.95 trillion. "The budget efficiency amounts to Rp 81 trillion," she stated at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Friday (January 31, 2025). Consequently, the remaining budget for the Public Works Ministry in 2024 is Rp 26 trillion.
