The Ministry Of Home Affairs Requests Input From The Jakarta Provincial Government For The Establishment Of An Agglomeration Council

Saturday, 18 Jan 2025

The Ministry of Home Affairs is actively discussing the establishment of an Agglomeration Council. In this process, the ministry is seeking advice and input from the Jakarta Provincial Government. "We are also asking for input from the DKI government, as they understand the technical aspects well," said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya during a media interview at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday (January 20, 2025). The formation of the Agglomeration Council is outlined in the Draft Law on the Special Region of Jakarta (RUU DKJ).

The Agglomeration Council is considered essential for ensuring that local governments in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Cianjur have a synchronized development plan. Currently, the Ministry of Home Affairs is in the process of drafting various regulations needed for the establishment of the Agglomeration Council.

These regulations are deemed crucial to ensure that the Agglomeration Council can operate effectively in the future. "We are drafting regulations and their derivatives to ensure that the Agglomeration Council will effectively coordinate development across Jakarta and its surroundings," Arya added. Previously, it was reported that with the expansion of the agglomeration area, the government plans to form the Agglomeration Area Council or Agglomeration Council.

According to the draft of the Jakarta Area Council Law (DKJ), the Agglomeration Area Council will be responsible for coordinating spatial planning in national strategic areas within the agglomeration and preparing a master plan document for agglomeration development. This council will also oversee, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of programs and activities in the master plan carried out by ministries/agencies and local governments. Article 55, Paragraph (3) of the RUU DKJ states that the Agglomeration Area Council will be led by the vice president.
