The National Narcotics Agency of Indonesia (BNN) received an award from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their collaboration in fighting international drug networks. BNN Chief, Police Commissioner Marthinus Hukom, stated that this award symbolizes Indonesia's success and recognition in tackling drug crime globally. He noted that BNN's achievements as the leading institution in addressing drug issues in Indonesia are supported by the DEA, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) through various cooperative efforts, as reported by Antara on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Marthinus dedicated the award to the Indonesian people, emphasizing that their support was crucial for this success. In light of discussions about closing the DEA office in Indonesia, he urged the U.S. Embassy to reconsider this plan. He highlighted that the DEA's presence in Indonesia has a significant positive impact. The award was presented by Mark Snyder, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the DEA's Asia Pacific Division, and Bryan Barger, the Country Attache for Indonesia. Marthinus Hukom and Satria Oktoreza, Head of the IT Subdirectorate at BNN, received the award on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in the presence of U.S. Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdir.

During the event, Kamala emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing drug issues. She noted that the partnership between the U.S. and Indonesia in combating drugs not only greatly affects Indonesia but also impacts the global drug situation. "This is not just a national issue; it also concerns the people," she stated.

Now we celebrate the long-standing relationship between the people of the U.S. and Indonesia in the fight against drug trafficking, said Kamala. An award was also given to Ivan Yustiavandana, the head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center, who has played a key role in combating money laundering related to drug crimes.
