President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during a state visit at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Saturday, January 11, 2025. According to Kompas.com, PM Ishiba arrived at the palace grounds around 9:55 AM, escorted in a black car with a "Japan" license plate. The vehicle, displaying flags of Japan and Indonesia, was greeted by mounted troops lining the road. It slowly circled the fountain in the palace courtyard, accompanied by armed forces and cavalry, before reaching the main building. Schoolchildren welcomed PM Ishiba by waving Indonesian and Japanese flags and saying welcome in Japanese. Upon exiting the car, PM Ishiba was greeted by Prabowo at the front of the vehicle, right in front of the main palace building. They then observed a welcoming ceremony at the palace grounds, which included the national anthems of both countries, a 21-gun salute, and a troop inspection. After the ceremony, Prabowo and PM Ishiba introduced their respective delegations. Prabowo invited PM Ishiba into the palace for a group photo and to sign the guestbook. They then proceeded to a bilateral meeting, attended by several ministers, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan P Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andy Rachmianto, along with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin were present. Earlier, Prabowo had welcomed Japanese Defense Minister Nakatani Gen at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Indonesia was the first country visited by Ishiba for bilateral talks since his appointment in October 2024. His previous international visits were part of multilateral engagements.
