Prabowo And Jokowi Are Among The Top 10 Popular Figures On Social Media In 2024

Social media has become a major platform for public figures and celebrities to shape public opinion, drive change, and inspire others. Research by Indonesia Indicator (I2) using the Intelligence Socio Analytic (ISA) system has identified the 10 most popular figures on social media throughout 2024. According to I2's Communication Director, Rustika Herlambang, Prabowo Subianto ranks first among the Most Popular Figures of 2024, with 541,668,056 responses across various social media platforms. "Prabowo Subianto attracts netizens on all five social media platforms, each with a different character," Rustika told the media on Wednesday (January 1, 2025). On platform X, Prabowo received the highest number of posts, with a negative sentiment of 38 percent. However, the highest responses came from TikTok, where the negative sentiment was only 15 percent. This is because netizens responded more to Prabowo's strong, appealing, independent persona, especially during the presidential election. Significant appreciation and support for Prabowo were also shown through posts on Instagram, shared by major Indonesian influencers like Raffi Ahmad and Nagita, who provided positive feedback. Content that evoked "joy," such as viral moments like "Dance Gemoy" or the character Si Gemoy, successfully captured public attention and increased positive engagement. Gibran Rakabuming, with 239,333,797 responses, secured the second position. He gained attention particularly during the campaign, his closeness to Prabowo, and a controversial vice-presidential debate issue. Gibran was frequently discussed on platform X, with a negative sentiment of about 39 percent. However, negative posts on platform X did not receive as many responses from netizens compared to those on TikTok and Instagram. Rustika noted that over the past year, the negative responses directed at Gibran were only around 17 percent.
