Yasonna Dicekal Once Removed The Director General Of Immigration During The Investigation Of Harun Masiku By The KPK

Tuesday, 31 Dec 2024

Former Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly has been banned from traveling abroad since December 24, 2024, due to a bribery case linked to the replacement of a member of the House of Representatives involving former PDI-P member Harun Masiku. It is still unclear how involved Yasonna is in this case, which has also led to the Secretary General of PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyanto, being named a suspect. Looking back, on January 28, 2020, Yasonna dismissed Immigration Director General Ronny Franky Sompie over incorrect immigration data regarding Harun Masiku, who was then a fugitive. Yasonna stated, "To ensure true independence and avoid any conflict of interest, I have activated the Immigration Director General and the Director of Immigration Information Systems," during a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on January 28, 2024.

According to Kompas.com, Ronny initially reported Harun Masiku's movements to Indonesia. On January 22, Ronny announced that Harun had arrived in Indonesia from Singapore on January 7, 2020. However, on January 16, 2020, Yasonna claimed that Harun was not in Indonesia. Regarding the confusion about Harun's whereabouts, Ronny explained that the information Yasonna provided did not include the latest flight data tracking Harun's activities. The data only recorded Harun's flight from Indonesia to Singapore on January 6, 2020. "We do not have any data indicating that on January 7, 2020, HM (Harun Masiku) had returned to Indonesia," Ronny stated at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights on January 24, 2024. On the same day as Yasonna's statement, Koran Tempo reported that Harun had indeed flown back to Indonesia on January 7, 2020.

Ronny stated that based on the information received, his team instructed the Head of the Class I Immigration Office at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to verify the arrival of the flight carrying Harun. This verification was conducted using CCTV footage from PT Angkasa Pura II. On January 19, 2020, the Immigration Directorate General ordered their internal team to investigate further by checking the equipment in Terminal 2F at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. It was confirmed that Harun Masiku returned to Indonesia on January 7, 2020, at 5:34 PM WIB, on a Batik Air flight. Ronny emphasized that what Yasonna previously stated was not fabricated.
