Wednesday, 27 Nov 2024

Indonesian Minister of Migrant Worker Protection (PPMI) Abdul Kadir Karding held a meeting with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono. During this meeting, Karding announced the agreement to establish a task force dedicated to the supervision and development of crew members and fishermen.

"We have agreed to form a task force to jointly oversee and develop the crew members, fisheries workers, and fishermen," Karding stated at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Additionally, both parties agreed to collaborate on preparing human resources. Karding mentioned that several polytechnics and KKP's Technical Implementation Units (UPT) could be consolidated with the Ministry of PPMI.

"The fisheries sector has around 10 to 17 polytechnics and five large UPTs, which we can propose to consolidate with our Ministry," Karding explained.

Karding also indicated plans to collaborate with KKP on mapping potential markets abroad. Furthermore, he mentioned the intention to integrate crew data with fisheries data.

"We will also work together to map potential markets overseas, identifying which countries have demand so that we can send our workers accordingly," Karding added.

"We will also integrate the data, ensuring that information regarding crew members is combined with fisheries data, allowing the Minister of KKP to stay informed about developments," he concluded. (srirahayu@insightinnews.com)
