The X Commission of the Indonesian House of Representatives has approved the naturalization requests for three candidates for the Indonesian National Football Team: Emil Audero Mulyadi, Dean Ruben James, and Joey Mathijs Pelupessy. This approval was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the X Commission, Lalu Hardian Irfanu, during a working meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Lalu stated, "The X Commission has decided to approve the recommendation for Indonesian citizenship for Joey Mathijs Pelupessy, Emil Audero Mulyadi, and Dean Ruben James." He added that the Commission would promptly report the meeting's outcome regarding the citizenship requests to the leadership of the House, to be presented at the plenary session on Thursday, March 6, 2025. "The results of today's working meeting will be presented at the plenary session of the House on March 6, 2025, for a decision," Lalu said.
However, Lalu emphasized that the final decision on citizenship for Joey Mathijs, Emil Audero, and Dean Ruben will be made by the Ministry of Law. "The X Commission, the government, and PSSI agree that the determination of Indonesian citizenship will be made by the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable laws," he concluded. Previously, PSSI confirmed that they are currently processing the naturalization for the three players: Joey Mathijs, Emil Audero, and Dean Ruben. Audero, Pelupessy, and Dean James are expected to join the Indonesian National Team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia in March 2025. The Red and White team is scheduled to play against Australia on March 20, followed by a match against Bahrain on March 25, 2025. Therefore, PSSI is working to expedite the naturalization process for Audero, Pelupessy, and Dean James. PSSI Executive Committee member Arya Sinulingga informed that the citizenship oath for Emil Audero, Joey Pelupessy, and Dean James will take place in Europe.
