BMKG: Extreme Weather May Occur Until The End Of March

Wednesday, 05 Mar 2025

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned that extreme weather may still occur until the end of March 2025. However, BMKG assures that these conditions can be detected early, allowing for mitigation efforts and early warnings. "So, God willing, it will be better. There may be extreme weather, but it will be brief. We are preparing for weather modification," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati at the Ministry of PMK office on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Dwikorita explained that the period from March to early April is a transition from the rainy season to the dry season. “(Extreme weather) will last until the end of March. The transition in April should ideally start in March. So, God willing, it will be better,” she added.

Therefore, even though the intensity of rain is expected to decrease, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning may still occur in some areas. To mitigate the impact of extreme weather, BMKG, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), has prepared weather modification to control excessive rainfall in flood-prone regions. "If detected, extreme weather can be identified in advance. It won't be sudden. This allows for anticipation and early warnings," Dwikorita continued.
