Prabowo Establishes Red And White Village Cooperative Funded By Village Funds

President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has decided to establish the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (Kopdes) in 70,000 villages across the country. Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, announced this decision after a meeting with several ministers at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, March 3, 2025. "One of the decisions made is to create the Merah Putih Village Cooperative, abbreviated as Kopdes Merah Putih. This will be set up in 70,000 villages," Zulhas, as he is commonly known, stated at the Presidential Palace complex.

Zulhas explained that the Kopdes Merah Putih will serve as a hub for collecting agricultural products from these villages. "This will create an economic center in the village and gather agricultural outputs," he added. The chairman of the National Mandate Party mentioned that the funding for Kopdes Merah Putih will come from existing village funds. "The budget will be sourced from the current village funds. The cooperative's structure and branding will be established, along with warehouses and six outlets," Zulhas noted.

He estimated that each village would require a budget of around 3 to 5 billion rupiah. Meanwhile, Minister of Village and Underdeveloped Regions, Yandri Susanto, stated that the government plans to revise Ministerial Regulation Number 2 of 2024 to focus the use of village funds on the Merah Putih Village Cooperative. "We will revise this regulation. The focus will be on the Merah Putih Village Cooperative, aiming for food self-sufficiency and overall village development. The main goal is for all villages to progress and thrive. We will build villages and build Indonesia," he said.
