MBG Is Expected To Absorb A Budget Of Rp 1 Trillion To Rp 2 Trillion Each Month

The free nutritious meal program, known as MBG, is expected to require a budget of Rp 1 trillion to Rp 2 trillion each month starting in March 2025. Zulkifli Hasan, the Coordinating Minister for Food, stated that the budget discussions for MBG have been completed. "Why has the budget been small until now? Well, the budget has just been finalized," Zulhas mentioned after leading a coordination meeting about the MBG program at the Kemenko Pangan office in Jakarta on Monday, March 3, 2025.

Zulhas added, "It is estimated that in March, the program could absorb a budget of up to Rp 1-2 trillion per month." Dadan Hindayana, the head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), noted that this budget is projected to benefit 3 million recipients. "In about two weeks, we expect to serve over 3 million beneficiaries across Indonesia. For these 3 million, we are budgeting around Rp 1 trillion per month," Dadan explained.

The budget will increase as more beneficiaries are added. Dadan indicated that if the number of recipients reaches 82.9 million, the required budget would be approximately Rp 25 trillion per month. "If we accelerate and serve 82.9 million recipients by 2025, we will need Rp 25 trillion per month," he said. "We already have a budget of Rp 71 trillion for 2025, so the additional amount will be Rp 25 trillion per month if we reach 82.9 million recipients," he added.
