BRIN's Budget Is Reduced By Rp 1.42 Trillion: Leadership Facilities And National Surveys Are Eliminated

Thursday, 20 Feb 2025

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has eliminated several budget items, including benefits for leaders and national survey activities, as part of its budget efficiency efforts. The agency achieved a budget efficiency of IDR 1.42 trillion, which is 24.46% of its total allocation of IDR 5.84 trillion. As a result, BRIN's active budget after restructuring is now IDR 4.413 trillion.

This efficiency amount is lower than the initial IDR 2.07 trillion before the restructuring. "The focus of BRIN's budget efficiency for 2025 is the removal of all benefits for leadership positions, from myself to all leaders within BRIN," said BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko during a hearing with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday (February 13, 2025). He noted that one of the benefits removed is the use of RFID-based fuel for leaders.

Additionally, BRIN will not conduct any national surveys for the 2025 budget year. Handoko mentioned that BRIN previously conducted around 10 national surveys, some of which will continue while others will not. "There are surveys related to demographics and religion. Some will not be conducted, but we will still carry out some," Handoko explained after the meeting. He added that the surveys conducted by BRIN are secondary surveys, not primary data surveys like those done by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). Handoko believes that eliminating these surveys will not have a significant impact. "For example, we will still conduct the regional competitiveness index survey, but it won't require a new survey. We will just analyze existing secondary data, which is collected automatically on a daily basis," he clarified.

Moreover, the agency has also reduced its budget for international travel, except for invited guests' expenses.
