The Government Plans To Increase BPJS Health Contributions In 2026

Monday, 17 Feb 2025

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced that the government plans to adjust or increase the BPJS Health contributions in 2026. He mentioned that this plan has been communicated to President Prabowo Subianto, but he needs more time to calculate the proposed increase with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. "I have informed Mr. Prabowo that our calculations with Minister Sri Mulyani suggest that 2025 should be secure. However, in 2026, we may need to make adjustments to the rates," Budi said after meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (February 5, 2025). Budi noted that the calculations from the Health Ministry and the Finance Ministry are not final, so the exact increase in BPJS Health contributions is still uncertain.

He explained that the calculation process will involve BPJS Health, the Finance Ministry, and the Health Ministry. Once the calculations are clearer, Budi and Sri Mulyani will report back to Prabowo. "I will ask for his time once the calculations are accurate to meet with Minister Sri Mulyani for an explanation," Budi added. He also confirmed that the rate increase is unrelated to the Standard Inpatient Class (KRIS), which is still under evaluation until the end of June 2025. "No, it has nothing to do with KRIS. There are no figures yet. That's why I need to meet with him, but I have been given time to discuss with Minister Ani (Sri Mulyani)," Budi clarified.

The plan to raise BPJS Health contributions was also mentioned by BPJS Health President Director Ali Ghufron Mukti. However, at that time, the decision on benefits, rates, and contributions was to be finalized by July 1, 2025, at the latest. The increase in JKN participant contributions is necessary due to BPJS Health facing a deficit between claims payments and contribution income.
