The Government Will Remove The Term Zoning In The 2025 School Enrollment Process

The Minister of Education for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Abdul Mu'ti, announced that the new policy regarding New Student Admissions (PPDB) will eliminate the term "zoning." However, he did not confirm whether this means the zoning system itself will be removed. "Just a hint, the word zoning will no longer be used; it will be replaced with something else. What will that be? Wait for the official announcement," said Prof. Mu'ti at the Ministry's office in Jakarta on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Prof. Mu'ti also mentioned that they have submitted the PPDB study results to President Prabowo Subianto. He stated that after this submission, the future of the zoning system will be decided in a cabinet meeting. "The PPDB decision will be made in the cabinet meeting, and we have submitted the ministry's study results to the President through the Cabinet Secretary," explained Prof. Mu'ti. Previously, he acknowledged that he had presented a new PPDB scheme to President Prabowo Subianto in writing on January 17, 2025. However, this concept was not discussed due to other agenda items, including a meeting about free nutritious meals.

"We just submitted it in writing, and it wasn't discussed because of other matters, but we still requested a prompt decision," said Prof. Abdul Mu'ti at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Friday. He emphasized the need for a quick decision due to two main interests: coordinating with local governments and informing the public thoroughly. "The new concept is ready, and we have submitted it to the President through the Cabinet Secretary," added Prof. Mu'ti.
