Tatacipta Dirgantara Appointed As ITB Rector For 2025-2030

Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the head of the Board of Trustees at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), has appointed Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara as the new Rector for the 2025-2030 term. The appointment took place during an open meeting of the Board at the West Hall of ITB's Ganesha Campus on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Budi expressed his hopes for Tata to continue producing graduates who can contribute to the nation and excel in various fields, including the arts. He stated, "I hope to see more prominent ITB alumni who, due to quality education, become significant figures not just in Indonesia but also in Asia and worldwide," as quoted from ITB's official website.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, has high expectations for Tatacipta to elevate ITB to a world-class, independent university. He emphasized that ITB should lead change through education, research, community service, and multidisciplinary entrepreneurship and innovation that integrates humanities, arts, science, technology, and business. Satryo reminded everyone of ITB's four main missions: to promote national intelligence, uphold human values, innovate excellently, and commit to impactful service.

"May ITB continue to be progressive and at the forefront of addressing national challenges with innovative and inclusive solutions," he added. In his speech, Tata expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to transforming ITB into a Fourth Generation University that integrates education, research, community service, entrepreneurship, and multidisciplinary innovation. "We must be ready to face global challenges such as technological change, clean energy, health, and environmental sustainability through science-based solutions and innovation," he stated.

Tata shared a vision to create an excellent academic ecosystem by using cutting-edge research, strategic partnerships, and multidisciplinary collaboration. "I believe ITB can lead change by providing holistic solutions that combine humanities, arts, science, technology, and business," he stated.

Tatacipta Dirgantara graduated from ITB with a bachelor's degree (1988-1993) and a master's degree (1993-1995). He also pursued a Doctorate at Wessex Institute of Technology in England (1995-1997), which he later transferred to Queen Mary University of London (1997-2000). In 2019, Tata continued his professional engineering education at ITB.
