Inflation In 2024 Is 1.57 Percent, The Lowest Since 1958

Saturday, 04 Jan 2025

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the year-to-date inflation for 2024 is 1.57 percent. According to Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Statistics and Services at BPS, this annual inflation rate as of December 2024 is the lowest since BPS began tracking inflation in 1958. "So, the year-to-date inflation for 2024 at 1.57 percent is the lowest ever recorded by BPS," Pudji stated during a press conference in Central Jakarta on Thursday, December 2, 2024.

"This is the lowest since inflation was first measured in 1958," she added. Pudji noted that BPS had previously recorded a low year-to-date inflation of 1.68 percent in 2020. Therefore, the inflation rate for 2024 is still lower than the previous lowest record. She explained that several factors contributed to the low inflation in 2024, with the decline in staple food prices after increases in 2022 and 2023 being a key factor.

"I can mention a few main commodities that helped reduce the year-to-date inflation as of December 2024. First, red chili experienced deflation of 46.53 percent, contributing 0.27 percent to deflation," Pudji revealed. "Then, bird's eye chili also saw a deflation of 39.74 percent, contributing 0.18 percent. Gasoline had a deflation of 1.86 percent, contributing 0.09 percent. Lastly, air transport fares experienced a deflation of 7.62 percent, contributing 0.06 percent," she explained.
