The Ministry of Cooperatives has launched the Indonesian Driver Empowerment Cooperative (Kopdi), which serves as a joint business entity for the Indonesian Driver Empowerment House Organization (RBPI). The inauguration took place during the 3rd anniversary celebration of RBPI at the Wiladatika Flower Park Complex in Cibubur, Depok, West Java, on Sunday, December 22, 2024. "We want all citizens, including Indonesian drivers, to enjoy the progress of Indonesia in the future," said Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi during the Kopdi launch, as stated in a written release on Monday, December 23, 2024. With the establishment of Kopdi, Budi Arie hopes to increase the membership ratio in cooperatives to 60 million people. Currently, there are about 13 million drivers across Indonesia. "With that number (13 million), the target of 60 million will be reached quickly, not to mention the farmers' cooperatives, labor cooperatives, and others," Budi Arie added.
Budi Arie believes that if Kopdi is managed well, it can enhance the welfare of drivers. He acknowledged that, at present, the average welfare of drivers is not adequate. "Therefore, cooperatives are seen as a middle ground to achieve this mission," he stated. Budi Arie emphasized that drivers play a crucial role in the national economy. Thus, he believes that the lives of drivers should improve and their welfare should be secured through cooperatives. "I cannot imagine the Indonesian economy moving without all of you. Drivers are like the lifeblood of the economy," Budi Arie remarked.
