The Government Is Preparing Five Key Strategies For The National AI Plan, And There Is An Increasing Demand For Digital Talent

Tuesday, 24 Dec 2024

The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, announced that the government has developed five main vertical priorities for the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy to maximize AI's potential across key sectors. The five prioritized sectors are Healthcare Services, Bureaucratic Reform, Talent Education, Smart Cities Mobility, and Food Security. In the area of Talent Education, Meutya explained that AI will be used through adaptive learning tailored to individual needs.

One established method is self-paced learning with micro-skills, allowing people to access training materials flexibly and easily via digital platforms. "Thus, one of the National AI Strategy priorities is to develop AI digital talent. We believe that ITB will be a pioneer in this area, and we will also examine some of its laboratories because our urgent need is to have digital talent ready for AI technology," she stated at the "National Seminar on Optimizing AI Utilization in Public Infrastructure Development" at the Bandung Institute of Technology on Saturday (December 21, 2024).

Another priority in the National AI Strategy for Healthcare Services involves the Ministry of Health already using AI to expand access and improve diagnostic accuracy. AI in healthcare also enables early disease detection and simplifies hospital management. In terms of Bureaucratic Reform, AI is a key driver of change, as several government agencies have implemented AI-based data processing, resulting in significant reductions in time and operational costs. "Additionally, in the first quarter of 2025, we will launch the Digital SPBE as an integrated service across ministries."

The Ministry of Communication and Information is using Artificial Intelligence to monitor negative content, according to Meutya. For Smart Cities Mobility, she highlighted Bandung as a successful example of a city in Indonesia that has improved public services digitally. Lastly, food security is the fifth priority and an important directive from President Prabowo Subianto. Meutya explained that AI is used in this sector to enhance the food supply chain, manage agricultural land, and improve seed and harvest quality by predicting climate and weather. "Ultimately, we understand that AI will impact all areas, but we should first focus on aspects related to national nutritional resilience," she concluded.
