The government has introduced a new pricing scheme for Certain Natural Gas Prices (HGBT) for industries. This policy is outlined in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Decision Number 76.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2025, signed by Minister Bahlil Lahadalia on February 26, 2025. "Following President Prabowo's directive, HGBT prices are differentiated based on the use of natural gas as fuel at $7 per MMBTU (million British thermal units) and as a raw material at $6.5 per MMBTU," Bahlil stated in a written announcement on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Previously, industries received gas prices ranging from $6.75 to $7.75 per MMBTU. This policy targets seven industrial sectors with a total of 253 users, including:
- Fertilizer industry
- Petrochemicals
- Oleochemicals
- Steel
- Ceramics
- Glass
- Rubber gloves
The government aims for this policy to enhance the competitiveness of industries in the global market, create new job opportunities, and support national economic growth. Additionally, it is expected to make domestic products more affordable for the public.
Natural Gas for Power Generation The government is also promoting the use of natural gas in the energy mix for power generation. This initiative is governed by the Minister of ESDM Decision Number 77.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2025, which sets the pricing and usage of natural gas for the public electricity supply sector. This decision was also signed on February 26, 2025.
