The Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises are collaborating to expand the marketing of Indonesian MSME products in international markets. This partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development and empowerment of export-ready MSMEs on Monday, February 24, 2025. Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri emphasized that MSMEs play a crucial role in driving the economy, contributing 61 percent, or approximately IDR 9,580 trillion, to the gross domestic product (GDP).
To enhance the competitiveness of local MSME products and broaden market access both domestically and globally, efforts to support MSME development are essential. "Through this collaboration, we will focus on utilizing all available resources to create greater added value for the national economy, especially for MSMEs and local industries to grow and compete in the global market," Roro stated during the MoU signing event at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta.
The synergy between the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises includes strengthening domestic supply chains, enhancing human resource capabilities, and improving financing support schemes. Roro mentioned that the Ministry of Trade supports local MSMEs through various activities, including export training, design clinics, trade promotions, and business matching initiatives. The Ministry also has trade representatives in 33 countries to help expand the market for MSME products. "We hope that these MSME products can reach these countries, maximizing the potential of the 33 nations where we currently have trade offices abroad," she added. The Ministry of Trade aims for MSME exports to these 33 countries to reach USD 18.84 billion, or around IDR 306 trillion, by 2025, based on an exchange rate of IDR 16,250 per USD.
