Bank Indonesia (BI) has decided to withdraw and remove the special rupiah notes from the series "For The Children of The World," issued in 1999, specifically the denominations of Rp 150,000 and Rp 10,000. This action will take effect on January 31, 2025, in accordance with Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) Number 2 of 2025. "As of that date, these special rupiah notes will no longer be considered valid currency in the Republic of Indonesia," stated Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Executive Director of BI's Communication Department, in a written statement on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The special rupiah notes have the following characteristics:
For the Rp 150,000 note:
- Front: Features the Garuda bird, the text BANK INDONESIA, the UNICEF logo, and the year of issue 1999.
- Back: Depicts a boy playing with a traditional horse puppet, includes the text FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, and shows the denomination of Rp 150,000.
- Dimensions: Made of gold with a purity of 0.999, weighing 6.22 grams, and measuring 22 millimeters in diameter.
For the Rp 10,000 note:
- Front: Features the Garuda bird, the text BANK INDONESIA, the UNICEF logo, and the year of issue 1999.
- Back: Shows a scene of Scouts planting a million trees, includes the text FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, and displays the denomination of Rp 10,000.
- Dimensions: Made of silver with a purity of 0.925, weighing 28.28 grams, and measuring 38.61 millimeters in diameter.
BI encourages individuals who possess these special rupiah notes to exchange them at commercial banks until a maximum deadline of 10 years after the withdrawal date, which is January 31, 2035. Exchanges can be made at BI's headquarters or its representative offices across Indonesia. However, before exchanging, individuals must place an order through the PINTAR application.
