Prabowo Inaugurates 37 Projects That Will Generate 3.2 Gigawatts Of Electricity, Mostly From Renewable Energy Sources

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 37 electricity projects across 18 provinces in a hybrid event from the Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant in Sumedang, West Java, on Monday (January 20, 2025). The inaugurated projects include 26 power plants and 11 transmission lines and substations. Most of the power plants launched today utilize new and renewable energy sources, such as hydropower, solar energy, micro-hydro, and biomass. Prabowo stated that these 37 electricity projects can generate 3.2 gigawatts of electrical energy.

"This might be the largest energy project inauguration in the world. 3.2 gigawatts at once is certainly a result of the hard work of all Indonesian people and various institutions," Prabowo said during the inauguration. He expressed gratitude that these projects were officially launched just three months into his administration. The president noted that the inauguration of these projects demonstrates Indonesia's capability to transform its energy sector towards new and renewable energy.

This progress allows Indonesia to contribute to reducing global carbon emissions. "I believe we are now among the leading countries in the world in energy transformation towards renewable and clean energy," Prabowo stated. "While other countries may talk a lot about renewable energy, we are taking action and making it happen," he emphasized. Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia mentioned that 89 percent of the energy from the 3.2 gigawatts produced by these projects comes from clean energy, combining gas and renewable sources.

This step is part of the ongoing effort to support the President's commitment, both domestically and internationally, to accelerate the energy transition from fossil fuel-based steam power plants to renewable energy, said Bahlil. The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized PLN's commitment to managing reliable electricity infrastructure. He assured that the electricity supply from the 37 power projects can be optimally distributed to support community activities and the industrial sector.
