Digital Financial Transactions In 2024 Soar, QRIS Jumps 175.2 Percent

Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that digital financial transactions saw significant growth in 2024, particularly in payments using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that digital payment transactions reached 43.5 billion in 2024, marking a 36.1 percent increase year on year. Mobile app transactions grew by 39.1 percent, while internet transactions increased by 4.4 percent in 2024.

Specifically for QRIS, transaction volume surged by 175.2 percent throughout 2024. "The volume of digital payments through QRIS continues to grow rapidly, supported by an increase in users and merchants," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on January 15, 2025. In terms of infrastructure, retail transaction volume processed through BI-FAST reached 3.4 billion transactions, growing by 62.4 percent, with a total value of Rp 8.9 trillion in 2024.

The volume of large-value transactions processed through BI-RTGS reached 10.3 million transactions, growing by 3.1 percent, with a value of Rp 126.3 trillion, an increase of 17.6 percent in 2024. In 2025, BI-FAST transaction volume is expected to grow by 34.1 percent, while BI-RTGS transaction value is projected to increase by 11.4 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in terms of managing the Rupiah, the circulating currency (UYD) grew by 9.3 percent to Rp 1,204.5 trillion by the end of December 2024, and is expected to grow by 5.7 percent in 2025.
